India to get the status of a Nuclear Power?
I am sure it would be a great achievement in the field of International Relations if PM Singh can get the US President to push for granting India the status of a nuclear power. There can be no doubt that with the support of the US we would definitely get that recognition - a status which China managed for itself way back in 1992(17 years back). However, it would be foolish to believe that just because Obama referred to India as a "nuclear power" during the State visit of Dr.Singh, he would automatically push for granting that status officially in the international community. One has to be a bit of a sceptic about any promises of Obama considering his blatant posturing to the Chinese! George W. Bush, for all his faux pas, could easily be taken to be more trust-worthy than Obama. So let us not get carried away and become a "follower" of the US unless and until we can extract concrete gains and commitments from it.
