China to supply sophisticated arms to Pakistan
While there is just cause for concern about Sino-Pak military nexus,it would be a waste of time to brood on it. There's not much India can do if China decides to supply deadly arms to a rouge state like Pakistan. What we can do,instead,is boost our own capabilities - and that means procuring high-quality weapons et al. We have always made the serious blunder of looking to the erstwhile USSR (and now Russia)for our defence procurements. The result, in most cases, have been that we have landed up buying near-obsolete technology and redundant machinery for our armed forces. A case in point is the decision to procure Russia's aircraft carrier "Admiral Gorshkov". Why on earth did we spend USD 974 million to procure it (the good Russians are now demanding an additional USD 2.9 billion!!!) when it was decommissioned by the Russian Navy itself way back in 1996 due to faulty systems and a boiler room explosion?! We could easily have got much more lethal and first-hand Carriers from other nations! Even now,we have the chance to do the right thing - that is, procure sophisticated weapons and systems from countries like the US, UK, France, Israel and Switzerland. When will our politicians learn that lavish State-dinners mean nothing, weapons do.
